I listed a vintage item in my Giggling Gnome shop. It's not something I've ever done before, but when I saw this stapler, in it's box even, I immediately thought Etsy. I'm sure someone would love to have this retro peice on thier desk. It's classic, lovely colors, and made of durable metal.

Recycled Record Bowls!

What a fun and unique conversation piece! A recycled “Steely Dan” album that was no longer in playable condition is given new life repurposed into this one of a kind warped record bowl.

So fun to make, I'm looking forward to making many many more! And a great way to recycle too! I got about 8 albums from the local Goodwill this weekend and made these bowls in a flash.

Available for sale today in my Giggling Gnome Etsy shop for only 6.95 plus shipping. More bowls to come in the near future. Each bowl is truly one of a kind making it even more special.

You’ll love using your record bowl as a candy dish, fruit dish, or for other dry or wrapped food items. It looks great on the coffee table to catch your remote, keys, lighters, etc. Or, how about on your desk as a catch-all basket? Use it on your dresser for your hair accessories or make-up.

What a perfect gift for the person who has everything, a Steely Dan fan, or music lover. Record bowl also makes a great gift basket!

Just remember, wipe it with a damp cloth to clean. Keep the label dry. Obviously don’t use it in the microwave or put it in the dishwasher. And I wouldn’t recommend eating directly out of it.

During this holiday season, members of the EcoEtsy Team are joining together to donate 10% of sales occuring Sunday, December 7th through Sunday, December 14th, to Heifer International.

With the goal of ending hunger, Heifer International is a project that helps impoverished families worldwide become more self-reliant through the gift of livestock and training in their care. It works in the "teach a man to fish" philosophy, and has helped in more than 50 countries. The amount of money raised will determine our actual gift to Heifer.org. Some of the possible gifts we can buy with our donation are Honeybees for $20, a pig for $120, flock of geese, chicks, or ducks $20, a llama for $150, or a heifer for $500.

At the end of the week, the final donation purchases will be posted on the EcoEtsy team blog as well as this one. I will be donating 10% of sales from both of my shops to this great cause. Here is a complete list of participating shops:

Just in time for Christmas! New Christmas Card Clothesline & Clips! I hope to take some good shots of this new product in action over the weekend and post it for sale in my Etsy shop! But just as you would imagine you hang the clothesline in your home, along a banister or mantel perhaps, and use the decorated clips to clip your holiday greetings to the line.

A Wal-Mart worker died early Friday after an "out-of-control" mob of frenzied shoppers smashed through the Long Island store's front doors and trampled him, police said.

The Black Friday stampede plunged the Valley Stream outlet into chaos, knocking several employees to the ground and sending others scurrying atop vending machines to avoid the horde.

When the madness ended, 34-year-old Jdimytai Damour was dead and four shoppers, including a woman eight months pregnant, were injured.

Eco-friendly notebooks have 100 pages (50 sheets) of wide ruled white paper printed with eco-conscious vegetable-and-water based inks. The book itself is made from 80% sugarcane waste! Sugar cane based paper is good for the environment and saves trees. Notebook measures 7.5 in. by 9.75 in. with a heavyweight kraft board cover. Sheets are center stitched.

With the addition of a recycled cover and a pretty ribbon, these books are really something!

My New Passion

I'm now addicted to making these composition books! I have so many ideas and aspirations! Last night I made a Dr. Seuss Mini Composition Notebook and another full-sized notebook with Sesame Street covers which will be for sale tomorrow.

I strive for books made from 100% recycled paper and to decorate them with recycled paper as well. Here's a look at my two new notebooks:

Last night I tried my hand at making a covered composition notebook. I enlisted the help of my husband, who does not like to involve himself with any of my craftiness, to help me with ensuring the paper lined up correctly and how to properly use the new glue I had purchased for this project. I am quite happy with how our finished notebook turned out. Witness the results for yourself:

The composition notebook is covered in pages recycled from a book published in 1962 entitled, "The Universe, Earth, and Man" by Hammond & Company. The back cover has a paragraph which reads,

"Man is fortunate indeed. The fact that he is physically feeble, an inhabitant of a thin crust of a minor planet of an inconsequential star in just one of the millions of galaxies in the universe, does not detract from this. He has been created with the ability to understand what he is and where he is in relation to the world in which he lives.
Man does not simply exist. He has the power to appreciate the great adventure of existence. He does not simply survive by rote or instict. He asks the why and how of things, looks into and under and behind them to find answers, and adapts his actions in accordance with them.
Man is not an amoeba floating aimlessly in the boundless sea of the universe. He is a matter which has combined into life-stuff to produce a being which has an awareness of this universe and an ever-increasing capacity to shape it to his needs."

Now that's deep. I'm feeling like this would be a great notebook for science class, or for anyone who tends to perform scientific studies or experiments, a star gazer, Jack Horkheimer, or an evil genious perhaps? I will be listing the item for sale tomorrow at Giggling Gnome.

I took the summer off to enjoy it fully while it lasted. Maine summers are so short. Now, I'm slowly getting back into the Etsy shops! A New Product

I have just added a new product to my Etsy shop. It is a jewelry holder that I made from a picture frame. It is great because it can be hung on the wall or stand alone on top of your dresser so it is easy to pick out your earrings for the day while you are getting dressed. It also allows you to show off all of the great handmade jewelry you've bought on etsy.

This item can be customized by contacting me and specifying what color or design you would like in the frame so the item will match your decor. Photographs could also be emailed to me to put in the frame.

The product shown is made from a solid black frame measuring 11" x 9" x 1" overall size, and 9 1/2" x 7 1/2" on the inside of the frame. It is fitted with 4 strips of black foam hand notched to hold up to 36 pairs of earrings seperated from one another. This frame is lined with a piece of textured pink paper with a silvery finish, laid under glass. It is designed for dangle earrings and may not work well for studs or very heavy earrings.
